Mirza Book Agency was established by Mr. Mahmud-Ul-Hassan Mirza, a pioneer in Pakistan’s academic and publishing community. His unwavering dedication to books, education, and ethics shaped the landscape of Pakistan’s book trade and earned him international recognition. He was known not just as a bookseller, but as an intellectual, reformer, and champion of ethical publishing in the Global South.

Early Life and Education

Mr. Mahmud-Ul-Hassan Mirza was born on November 15, 1927, to Mirza Noor Muhammad. He was married and had three sons: Shahid Mahmood Mirza, Qasim Mahmood Mirza, Tariq Mahmood Mirza, and two daughters.

He studied at Islamia High School, Lahore from 1938 to 1944, where he passed his matriculation in the first division. In 1947, he pursued machine shop technology from City & Guilds in London. By 1949, he graduated with honors from Punjab College of Engineering and Technology (now UET Lahore) with a Licenciate in Mechanical Engineering, securing first-class first in five out of eight subjects. That same year, he became a Section A member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, London, demonstrating his exceptional academic foundation in technical and mechanical disciplines.
